Northland-Thorold Cogeneration Project - Thorold, ON

Located 20 minutes from Niagara Falls and just west of Lake Ontario, the Thorold Cogeneration project is a 265-megawatt combined cycle cogeneration facility that will provide power to more than 100,000 Ontario homes, businesses and the adjacent AbitibiBowater Paper Mill.

The Kiewit team was awarded the contract to provide detailed design, construction, start-up, commissioning and performance testing for the project. The plant, which is enclosed in a sound-attenuated building to meet strict noise requirements, features a GE 7FA gas turbine and a Siemens SST-900-RH steam turbine. Other equipment includes an Alstom heat recovery steam generator and two Foster Wheeler auxiliary boilers.
